To mark the 350th Anniversary of the Royal Mathematical School (RMS) at Christ's Hospital, a new 695th Lord Mayor's Royal Mathematical School Scholarship programme was established in partnership with the Lord Mayor of London, Professor Michael Mainelli.

Established by King Charles II in 1673 to prepare students with the skills to navigate the world, the spirit of the RMS continues to inspire modern-day students to future success. The Scholarships will run in perpetuity, providing a fitting legacy for the RMS and a way for our donors to have a lasting impact on social mobility for years to come.

Maurice Upperton Foundation visiting Christ

We are delighted to announce that the Maurice Upperton Foundation has confirmed support for the first Lord

Mayor’s Royal Mathematical School Scholarship. Named in honour of Maurice Upperton, the in-perpetuity scholarship will enable sixth form candidates from naval, building/ construction or West Sussex backgrounds to experience a transformative two years at CH.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Trustees of the Maurice Upperton Foundation, Hugh and Frances Coster and were delighted to welcome them for a recent visit to CH, along with their daughter, and member of our Old Blue community, Charlotte Coster (ColA, GrW 03-10). It was a wonderful opportunity to affirm the Maurice Upperton Foundation’s generous support for our Lord Mayor’s Royal Mathematical School Scholarship programme.

We have now received donations of £574,750, enough to fund two full RMS Scholarships and are hoping to raise enough to establish a third Scholarship. We are grateful to all our donors for their support.
