Terry Bate (ColA 45-51)

Old Blue Terry Bate (ColA 45-51) is regarded as one of the most influential figures in the evolution of commercial broadcasting. From leadership in the Royal Air Force, to his pioneering work with Radio Caroline — a ground-breaking ‘pirate’ radio station. Read more

Tim Benjamin (PeB, PeA 87–92) has followed his love of music while also building a successful career in technology. Beyond his professional achievements, he has created a ripple effect of impact, continuing to inspire CH students and giving back to his local community. Read more

Tanya Goodin (Hertford)

An entrepreneur, early tech adopter and author, known for building global businesses and exploring how people interact with technology. Now at the forefront of AI, Tanya combines innovation with ethics and is inspiring the next generation to engage with tech. Read more

Dr Hans Hon Sang Chan (LaA, GrE 11-16)

Tackling plastic and textile waste through science and technology - From a Dragon’s Den style college competition, to recognition on the Forbes 30 under 30 (2025) list, Dr Hans Hon Sang Chan is leading the way in plastic and textile recycling through his ground-breaking technology and start-up company. Iona Popat (LHB, GRE 09-16)

Tackling homelessness through social enterprise, Iona is transforming lives through her work at Fat Macy’s, a social enterprise that trains young people in culinary and hospitality skills, while supporting their transition from hostels to independent living. Read more

Bursaries at Christ’s Hospital ensure more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds can thrive. They can open doors for children who have faced many challenges in their lives, and it can be a real turning point. Access to a first-class education, the individual attention, stable boarding environment, pastoral care and the feeling of belonging to a stable community at CH, can be invaluable for children to flourish and reach their potential.

Our Impact

Christ’s Hospital is the UK’s leading charitable school and the country’s most generous bursary charity. The school was established in 1552 and provides free or substantially reduced cost places to over 650 students each year – more than any other organisation in the UK.
